When you have finished editing a content item, the next stage is to publish this if you have permission to do so or to submit it for approval or publishing. To do this:
click on the 'Finish Task' link at the top right of the Authoring pane
enter some comments (this is optional)
click submit
If you have finished authoring, the user home page will be displayed. If you have permission to publish, the publishing page will be displayed.
